The SpotOn team opened shop right in our own backyard this week at the Michigan Restaurant & Lodging Show (MRLA), located at the Suburban Collection Showplace, less than twenty miles away from our Detroit corporate office and home of SpotOn Restaurant POS. With culinary competitions, educational sessions, and keynote speakers lined up, the show boasted plenty to see, hear, and taste over the course of two days.
Unique to the MRLA show are their two featured competitions: the Pork on my Fork Competition and the MRLA Pizza Challenge. The Pork on my Fork contestants were judged on taste, appearance, and originality, giving Michigan Chefs an opportunity to create a new, award-winning, pork entree to add to their menu.
Meanwhile, the MRLA Pizza Challenge was the most anticipated event of the show, with the winner receiving an entry to the International Pizza Challenge in Las Vegas, airfare courtesy of MRLA, as well as bragging rights for the best pie in town.
In addition to enjoying the culinary culinary match-ups, we sat in on an enlightening discussion on the importance of development and the role it plays in growth for restaurants and other types of hospitality businesses, hosted by Keith Ivory of Creative Dining Services and Sara Anderson from the National Restaurant Association.
And last but certainly not least, we snagged some pretty sweet bites throughout the show. Here are a few of our favorites:
- Jiffy makes more than just cornbread! Jiffy Foodservice was serving up Blueberry Lemon Muffins & Pancakes.
- Green Eggs & Ham from our friends Gordon Food Service.
- Cadillac Coffee kept us caffeinated with Illy cold brew on tap, and grab-and-go lattes.
- Chocolate Shoppe Ice Cream Company was serving up smiles with their rich & creamy ice cream by the scoop.
With the MRLA show a wrap, the 2019 hospitality show season is coming to a close for us. The SpotOn Restaurant team is looking forward to all the new innovation we have in the works that we will be bringing on the road in 2020.
